BOULDER 2010 ISOLATED BALANCED PRE

SPECIFICATION - DATA SHEET - STEREOPHILE REVIEW - FACTORY TOUR

The Boulder 2010 is a supremely luxurious pre amplifier by any standards, you can balance input levels so you don't have to raise or lower volume when you switch sources, you're given a precise volume level in dB on a large mirrored readout above the pushbuttons. You can even choose the coarseness or fineness of the volume control's operation. But this would be for nothing if it didn't extend to the unbeatable sound quality and extremely low noise floor.

This Boulder 2010 Pre Amplifier will let you hear everything that your favourite recordings can deliver and you will be happy in the knowledge that its 100% correct in its presentation.

"If I could afford both, I'd buy them and be done with it. Though I haven't had the experience some have had with electronics priced at this exalted level, I've heard plenty, and I've heard nothing better than what this combination provided. Its dynamic performance was cathedral-like. From the most subtle shifts to the most explosive, it followed the musical gradations like a race car. It was open, transparent, endlessly resolving harmonically, and free of grain, glare, or any other audible or fatigue-inducing detritus. " - STEREOPHILE , Michael Fremer, July, 2002

Boulder 2010 ISOLATED BALANCED PRE Details

The challenge of creating a truly neutral, remote controlled preamplifier has been achieved in the Boulder 2010. Luxurious in sight, touch and sound, the 2010 delivers the highest level of satisfaction.

The gain stages are built entirely of discrete components. The original 990 series was developed in the best recording studios and used in the earliest Boulder power amplifiers.

A total of eighteen 993 gain stages are used in the 2010 to achieve this unprecedented level of audio perfection. Balanced inputs use the sophisticated true 3-stage instrumentation style design for lowest distortion and highest noise rejection possible, thus obtaining clear, quiet reproduction from all sources. The outputs are fully buffered and balanced.

The classic cosmetic, generous use of custom machined and hand-finished metal parts instills an unusual pride of ownership. All commands are silently and precisely executed. The effortless enjoyment of music allows one to focus exclusively on the power of the performance.

"You want big? The 2010 will give it to you. It painted a picture that was big, solid, and three-dimensional. With appropriately muscular and full-bodied speakers, you'll feel as if you're hearing everything your favorite recordings could possibly deliver. You'll probably be correct....

When it came time to send the 2008 and 2010 to Stereophile to be measured and photographed, I insisted that John Atkinson come to my place to pick them up so that he could hear for himself what they and the Rockport Antares speakers delivered in my room. I played him Count Basie's 88 Basie Street, and Simon and Garfunkle's "The Boxer" and "The Only Living Boy in New York," from Classic's 45rpm reissue of Bridge Over Troubled Water. From his wordless, sputtering response, I don't think he'll find my enthusiasm for Boulder's electronics over the top"

Connoisseur 4-2L SE (Line stage)The sound from the Lyra was breathtaking. Such precision had the reviewers never heard before. Voices were extremely natural sounding. Also, the treble was produced with exactness and it even cared for the smallest details, and it was easy to follow how cymbals died away. The huge soundstgae that it produced was also unique. - Translated Stereoplay Extract

Boulder 1012 Preamplifier with Phono and DA Converter From any aspect, the Boulder 1012 is almost akin to a feat of magic. It sounds great through its own very special high-speed DACs, and sounds clear, transparent, and colorful through its line-level inputs as well. Find a way to feed it low-jitter 24/96 data and it'll give your system a little more of that wonderfulness we're all searching for while working the Boulder's DACs to their bursting point. If you've got the bucks, go for it. This is one very extraordinary component. - STEREOPHILE - Jonathan Scull, December, 2001
