BOULDER 850 Monoblock Power Amplifier

The 850 Mono Power Amplifier is immediately
recognizable as a Boulder, sharing a visual likeness with its predecessors while still maintaining its own unique identity. Drawing technology from Boulder’s 1000 and 2000 series, the 850 maintains the highest standards of quality and reliability yet makes unequalled Boulder performance available to an entirely new audience. The all analog Boulder 850 avoids the sonic problems of switching amplifiers such as noise radiation, dynamic limiting, and IM distortion.

Gregg Toland's (Citizen Kane) cinematography revolutionized cinema forever. Where Toland achieved his "deep focus" effects by using lens setting and illumination, the Boulder amps achieve theirs through remarkable details, dynamics and resolution. Indeed the 850's resolution was really its outstanding attribute, because when an amp is able to preserve low-level detail, all aspects of the performance are enhanced. Overall the 850's were simply very musical. I really enjoyed the Boulder 850 amps. they brought a new level of realism to my system. And while they are not cheap at US$10000, they are certainly worth considering if you're shopping in this price range. Max Shepherd, TAS, Issue 166.

"There is the usual tube vs. solid state debate but the Boulder's are unique in that they do not sound transistor-ish at all.  This is backed up by all the reviews."

The 810 and 850s were always a musical combination. This setup was always very dynamic and really lent itself to reproducing drums and percussion with the necessary attack to sound very lifelike. I found the combination of the 810 and 850's exhilarating to listen to on a number of levels. It's hard to believe that these are their entry level pieces, possessing the same level of quality and attention to details as their flagship electronics. You can tell that they want to keep you as a customer for life. The 810 and 850s are an example of American high technology at its finest. Jeff Dorgay, Tone Audio issue 6 - read more

"The 850 Mono Amplifier is a relatively diminutive (30 lbs.), half-width (8.50”) amplifier producing 200 watts of high-current output power into an 8 ohm load.

Above all else, build and design quality standards are equal to all other Boulder products.

The 850 Mono Amplifier is essentially one-half of one channel of the acclaimed 1060 Stereo Amplifier. Distortion and noise are exceptionally low while sonic performance and bandwidth are exceptionally high.

The New Boulder 800 Series

In year 2006, Boulder debuted the 800 Series. The 800 Series marks a new level of price point for Boulder products without sacrificing Boulder quality.

The 850 Mono Amplifier is the first to be released. The 800 Series, Boulder’s initial crossover into multi-channel and surround-sound technologies, is a new product line that not only encompasses single-box players, surround processors, media servers and amplifiers, but also includes new audiophile-targeted integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, and phono preamplifiers. Watch this space for new products as they are released!

An elegant chassis houses one channel, thus making a pair suitable for traditional stereo listening or a complete multi-channel home theater. Boulderlink and a 12V trigger enable the 850 to be connected to a home automation system or any Boulder preamplifier.
The 850 is completely designed and manufactured in Boulder, Colorado. Metalwork is fabricated in-house on CNC machining centers, assuring the strictest quality control and oversight of every detail. Meticulously engineered and refined, the 850 delivers high power into any load while preserving the renowned Boulder sound quality.

Kharma Matrix amplifier pairThis is a case of extreme value. Had they been packaged in a larger, fancier chassis, I have no doubt they would have no problem selling at $10,000 or more. I can't think of a competitive solid-state amp at anywhere near this price. The one that comes to mind is the darTZeel NHB-108 with its $18,000 MSRP. The MP150 is better." - Positive Feedback Issue 25

Einstein The Tube (preamplifier) For Roland Kraft of Image and Holger Barkse of Stereo (two popular German audio magazines), ‘The Tube’ combined the very best sonics and most flawless measurements ever encountered.

Wavac MD-805M Mono block Amplifier...The purity and beauty these amps deliver make them worth strong consideration from any highly discerning listener who values musical truth over audio dazzle." - Enjoy the music, Wayne Donnelly
