The Metronome CD4 Signature has demonstrated to me what is possible from the digital format at the top tier. What separates players of this caliber from the lower rungs is not necessarily more bass or better treble -- although in this case it's certainly so -- but more frequency-wide sonic reality top to bottom. Add to that superb build, promised longevity and a graceful design and you have a winner sitting on your top shelf if you can afford it

Design Features

Top loaded Integrated CD player and Transport
based on the Philips CDM12 PRO drive for the laser,
servo and control functions. Proprietary modifications are made to the Philips mechanism to suit the Metronome specifications.

One box design:
one box design using 2,5 mm ( 1/10 inch) aluminum bent.
Four transformers to supply the laser, servo, control functions and analog stage output.

Reading Mechanism:
Top loaded CD Transport based on the Philips CDM12 PRO drive for the laser, servo and control functions. Proprietary modifications are made to the Philips mechanism to suit the Metronome s Specifications.
Clamp and shaft, specially designed are used to maintain for the best the CD in place. Both the use of a special stainless steel and a clamp made of Delrin permit to reproduce the best sound possible with low jitter since the reading is at the pit level. "Continuous Ground" link from the disc surface to the electrical earth: lower level of CD static charges and better working condition for the reading electronic Lightning of the CD surface and thickness for better information extraction: the light come inside of the
disk through the transparent Perpex clamp. A specially designed transparent “helmet” protect the reading mechanism when the unit is not in use.

Happily the CD 4 falls into the latter category, it might not be a Zanden killer but it falls into that camp of playing music rather well "

	Zanden 2000P CD Transport Previously, if someone had offered to replace my record players and record collection wholesale with CDs and a player of my choice, I'd have questioned their sanity and then shown them the door. Now I'd have to consider that offer seriously. That's how big a step the Zanden digital electronics represent. - HiFi +
Zanden 5000S Digital to Analog Converter Have you ever heard a standard CD sound better than a top flite SACD player, if the answer is yes they I guess you have already heard the Zanden. Am I exaggerating, not in the slightest, it is more musical, more harmonically rich and musically correct, it does not fall foul of the SACD convertor sound (yes it has one) and there are millions more albums available and they are cheaper. For a moment I thought I was listening to Vinyl, yes its that good!
