Metronome CD 4 Signature |
I have heard cd players extract huge amounts of detail from a recording but sound sterile, I have heard cd players extract music from a recording, nothing fake they just make more musical sense of the cd's, more analogue if you will. Happily the CD 4 falls into the latter category
Kharma Matrix MP150 ![]() |
Kharma Matrix MP150, The best digital amlifier available in our opinion. The latest review in The Absolute Sound would seem to agree with us on this point. Hard to credit the quality that you can get from such a small well designed amplifier.
Einstein Light in the Dark
|
Einstein products continue to impress, and I mean seriously impress. Its not often that a product ticks all of the right boxes on my wish list but "Light in the Dark" is a case in point. Stunning design and looks (you really have to see it in the flesh to appreciate it), outstanding sonic ability at a level far beyond what its price would suggest, in fact if you have never heard the big Boulder you could happily retire with this amplifier and never once look back. Build quality is excellent and it is of an acceptable size and weight. It has enough grunt to drive all but the most difficult speakers, and when I say drive I mean drive this is one fast and clean amplifier. When mated with our EINSTEIN linestage ‘The Tube’, bass runs are reproduced with unheard-of speed that reveals sonic vistas previously only hinted at.
We have recently taken delivery of a range of Einstein products and make no mistake they are the cats whiskers, the dogs whatsits. It was one of those listening sessions where food was forgotten the wife was ignored (Until she poked me in the ribs) and I was blissfully unaware of time passing. It is so difficult to get a grip on the Einstein single time I placed an album on the turntable I just got sucked into the performance. I was of course listening to the highly regarded “The Turntables Choice” phono stage, see M. Fremer’s Stereophile comments on this superb phono stage. When playing Time Out on Dave Brubeck’s A Cut Above direct to disk album the drum solo runs are reproduced with unheard-of speed and dynamic attack while the cymbals shimmer with superb presence and realism. Everything from the attack to decay is glorious. I would go so far as to say that if you can afford the system you will almost certainly buy it. It ticks all three boxes. It looks superb, it sounds superb and it makes the emotional connection between performance and listener. The last point is the one that separated a very good system from an outstanding system, you can attempt to follow an individual instrument but I guarantee you will get drawn into the performance. The phono stage is simply a giant killer, it is rare these days for a product to simply astonish. |
