German Physiks - Borderland MKIII

The Borderland was German Physiks first flagship and is still one of the most musically accurate speakers available.

Driven to improve upon an already fantastic product we have reached the heady heights of the MK III and what a sonic blast it is. German Physiks have replaced the old 2 push pull bass design with open cabinet. The new design has 1 larger bass driver in a sealed cabinet. The crossover is also improved.

The blending between the DDD Driver and the bass is utterly seamless and the bass is faster than before with a lightning transient response.

Korean Magazine Hi-Fi Journal :

"...At the forte part of orchestral music, I could surely feel the natural balance and vivid feeling: the touch of the piano and the percussion sound was so real."
"The Borderland captured me with its sound."
"...It seemed like the speaker was very revealing of the amplifier."
"Compared with the MBL 101, which sounds clear but light, the Borderland will surprise you by the powerful sound."
"...My misconceptions about omni-directional speakers were incorrect: I was expecting a smeared, obscured sound. After listening to the Borderland, I was happily proved wrong.

The Borderland combines the DDD with our most sophisticated passive crossover network and double port bandpass bass enclosure loading two 8" inch high excursion ployglass cone.

A steel mesh acoustical isolation barrier separates the DDD’s subenclosure from the bandpass cabinet and effectively prevents bass resonances from reaching the upper chamber and modulating the output of the DDD.

Both cabinets are octagonal in form to minimize panel resonances still further. The double bandpass enclosure design was chosen to achieve very extended bass response with the superior driver protection afforded by a sealed back chamber.

And because only the port actually radiates sound into the listening space, and itself functions as a low pass filter, distortion components are essentially out of band and therefore inaudible.

The Borderland has the bass extension and output normally associated with high quality component subwoofers along with an overall sense of quickness and transparency more commonly found in the finest minimonitors.

Resolution and dynamics are unrivaled in a system of this size. The Borderland, like the more expensive speakers in our product line, is available in the customer’s choice of select, hand matched hardwood veneers, carefully applied to the MDF panels prior to the construction of the cabinets.

Such a practice results in some wastage, and thus adds to manufacturing cost, but results in the finest possible furniture grade finish. High gloss polyester lacquer is standard.

Acapella Violin MKIII"The title track of The Raven [Chesky 115] is one of my all time favorites. Through the High Violons, the glorious swooping sadness of Pidgeon’s voice radiated from a huge glowing orb between the speakers that reached out in all directions into the room. Background strings were dead-perfect timbrally, separated, delicate, living and breathing. I had the impression of being enveloped and touched on all sides by the blue-white radiance of the sound. It may not be surprising that a selection containing so much information in the treble was so exquisitely rendered through the Violons, but I hesitate to dismiss the experience. My notes from that session say "I can die now." - Ultra Audio Ross Mantle

Acapella LaCampanella"The Acapella LaCampanella is the best horn speaker I have experienced in memory. Never mind the LaCampella being a horn speaker, because they are one of the most differentiating in tonality among speakers I've used. Listening to music via the Acapella could drive a reviewer to retire, and I found myself listening harder to other speakers in constant search of a flamboyancy when the Acapella was taken out of the system." - by Constantine Soo September 3, 2005

Kharma Ceramique 2.3 Reference monitor "climb right into the venue of the music and watch the musicians perform. No other loudspeaker has done this for me. It is an extraordinary experience, way beyond the loudspeakers merely disappearing." - Enjoy the Music

Peak Consult Zoltan  "There is no denying that the Wilson line of loudspeakers – especially the System 7 – represents the state of the art in midsize dynamic loudspeakers. There is also no denying that it is experiencing pressure from ‘below’ and now from above. The DeVore Silverback Reference at two thirds its price is a better balanced speaker than the System 7. The Zoltan, at a somewhat greater price is a much more revealing, nuanced and sophisticated speaker overall." - Jules Coleman, Enjoy the Music
