German Physics - The Unicorn MKII

Like no other German Physiks Speaker the Unicorn is a single driver design. The designer has managed to model a horn cabinet onto the DDD Bending wave driver with spectacular results.

"Unicorn is similar to other speakers in the German Physiks
line – open, airy, pellucid, electrostatic-like, but lacking the tympanic resonances that give stats their so-called “plastic coloration.” Below 5 kHz, frequency response is just about dead level, and the system
exhibits little tendency to store energy.

It is not customary to speak of a noise floor in regard to loudspeakers, but the Unicorns seem to lack the kind of ongoing sub-audible disturbance that occurs in conventional speaker systems and obscures the lowest level of sonic details on a recording. On live recordings, such as Harry Belafonte Returns to Carnegie Hall [LSO 6007] or Chet Baker in Sweden [Dragon, DRLP 56], stray footfalls, hands tapping soundboxes, and so on form a continuous ambient seepage over the Unicorns. At the same time, the reverberant field that constitutes hall ambiance is followed down to the furthest
pianissimo level." - The Absolute Sound, DAN SWEENEY

"The Unicorn Tapestry
The Unicorn is a special product. Bass horn omnis are almost as rare as the unicorns of legend, and I’m sure
that many, contemplating its enormous enclosures, will shake their heads and turn away. But for those
undaunted by defiant eccentricity, pleasures and treasures await. " - The Absolute Sound, DAN SWEENEY

"As with all German Physiks products, cabinetwork is of Chippendale quality, and the joints are perfect."
- The Absolute Sound, DAN SWEENEY

Acapella FidelioO"A tiny but brilliant reproducer of vocals, although it would certainly benefit from a subwoofer for more aggressive listening. Beautifully constructed of layered hardwoods rather than the customary MDF" - AV Guide

Acapella LaCampanella"The Acapella LaCampanella is the best horn speaker I have experienced in memory. Never mind the LaCampella being a horn speaker, because they are one of the most differentiating in tonality among speakers I've used. Listening to music via the Acapella could drive a reviewer to retire, and I found myself listening harder to other speakers in constant search of a flamboyancy when the Acapella was taken out of the system." - by Constantine Soo September 3, 2005

Kharma Ceramique 2.3"climb right into the venue of the music and watch the musicians perform. No other loudspeaker has done this for me. It is an extraordinary experience, way beyond the loudspeakers merely disappearing." - Enjoy the Music
