System Matching

It’s a fair bet that if you stick to products from the same manufacturer the individual components will work well with each other, end of the story you can stop reading now!

The reality is that few (any) manufacturers provide mains filtering, full cable looms, equipment stands, electronics, analogue components and loudspeakers. This is where a good dealer earns his money and the internet and self taught learn their lessons the hard way.

Have you never wondered why there are so many items of seemingly good equipment on the second hand market? Its because of two distinct factors, firstly people have a tendency to believe they are experts and can build their own systems from magazine reviews and Internet chat.  The second is that of many large Hi-Fi manufacturers are guilty of using advertising to sell product rather than just having a good product and relying on dealers selling it because it is good. They also give their dealers large mark-ups and deals so that their product is pushed in preference to other often better products as it brings in more revenue.

If nothing else you should ask yourself am I buying someone else’s mistake and will it end up being a mistake for me!

On to the good Stuff. We have listed below products which we have found have a synergistic relationship which results in a better quality of music than you would expect when the items are paired up.

In the Digital World:
Accustic Art Drive 1 & Zanden 5000S
Weiss Jason and Boulder 1012
Zanden 2000P and Boulder 2020

On the Black Stuff:
DPS/Triplanar with Einstein Turntable Choice
DPS/Schroeder with Zanden 1200S
Any Lyra cartridge or the The Eminent is a match to any of the phono stages it just becomes an issue of price.

Amps & Speakers:
Boulder 850 mono-blocks with German Physiks HRS 120 - These require a lot of power thus tend to perform best with solid states like the Boulder or Accustic Arts. They also work well with selected valve amplifiers that have enough power output.

Wavac MD-805m with Acapella Violin MK III, a match made in heaven

Einstein The Absolute Tune with Kharma 3.1 Our latest super combo, we are seriously impressed by the Einstein Product Range.

Knocking the Accepted Wisdom
It is not about solid state vs tube as the components because we believe that our solid state components do not sound harsh or etched or that our tube gear sounds warm and rounded. In both cases the equipment we have just sounds right. Matching it appropriately with a speaker however requires careful consideration including specifications, room etc but most importantly the
sound that the prospective client is trying to obtain.

We could drone on endlessly and still never fit everything in, please call us to discuss your specific system and requirements, the more we know the better the end result will be.
