The Zanden Audio Model 2000P

The Zanden Audio Model 2000P transport is the future of digital audio. For a lucky few, that future is now. For the first time since its inception, the full potential of digital audio can finally be realized. Excitement has returned to digital audio. There are two key areas in which the Zanden transport goes far beyond its rivals. It has been designed to completely eliminate the effects of noise, which is one of the most insidious obstacles to superior digital audio. It also implements the world's most accurate digital clock in consumer audio, making jitter, phase noise and clock errors a thing of the past. In fact, no D/A converter can perform to its full potential without the Zanden transport. So sit back, put on your favorite CD and enjoy the music.

Have you ever heard a standard CD sound better than a top flite SACD player, if the answer is yes they I guess you have already heard the Zanden combo. Am I exaggerating, not in the slightest, it is more musical, more harmonically rich and musically correct, it does not fall foul of the SACD convertor sound (yes it has one) and there are millions more albums available and they are cheaper. For a moment I thought I was listening to Vinyl, yes its that good!

Compared to the top vinyl systems it just isn’t quite as dynamic as the black stuff but it sure doesn’t sound like any digital equipment that you have ever heard before. If the price doesn’t sent you screaming for the hills you have to buy one, its just that simple.

The Zanden Audio Model 2000P/Model 5000S duo is quickly becoming the standard against which all other digital statement components are judged.

"...Closer to home for me is a comparison to SACD, which the Zanden DAC and transport invite. SACD's greatest triumph is that it doesn't sound like CD, which is to say that CD's identifying characteristics are pretty much banished. The same holds true for the Zanden combo, which begs the question, "Which is better?" My mind says it's a draw, but when I look at the pile of discs I've been listening to, I have to admit that the Zanden Model 5000 Signature and Model 2000 Premium have been monopolizing my time. I still think just as highly of the SACDs I own, especially when they are played on a top-flight player like the Esoteric X-01, but I can't deny that I've been listening to the Zanden DAC and transport more than the X-01. CD playback from the Esoteric player is among the very best I have heard, but the Model 5000 Signature and Model 2000 Premium are at another level -- statement, ne plus ultra, the best of the best. I never thought I would write this, especially in light of the review I wrote on the Esoteric X-01 last year, but given my tastes and the wide array of music I play, I am aware of no better digital source than the Zanden separates..."

Marc Mickelson, SoundStage!, April 2005

"...While I will never play every one of my 2000+ CDs on the Zanden Model 2000 Premium transport, I can't think of a better component for wresting the music from their pits. The ease and resolution of the Model 2000 Premium work together to produce music in all its meaning and glory. The CDs I played sounded both more honest and elegant, as individual sonic details took on a sense of greater intrinsic character and more lifelike splendor. So much of what is responsible for this is obscured by the Model 2000 Premium's gleaming chassis, but you should keep in mind the super-accurate word clock and I2S digital output. Both prove that Kazutoshi Yamada is a forward-thinking audio designer who embraces technology if it serves music. The technology integral to the Model 2000 Premium's design goes a long way toward producing the transport's unmatched sound...

When CDs can do this, who needs another medium?"

Marc Mickelson, SoundStage!, April 2005

"...Previously, if someone had offered to replace my record players and record collection wholesale with CDs and a player of my choice, I'd have questioned their sanity and then shown them the door. Now I'd have to consider that offer seriously. That's how big a step the Zanden digital electronics represent. They don't sound like any CD player I've ever heard before. They sound better. They don't sound like any turntable either - they're different. In many ways, they've redefined my expectations of recorded music. Just when you thought CD was dying if not exactly dead, Zanden have brought it back to real breathing life -- somewhere it's never been before -- and that's good news for all of us ..."

Roy Gregory, HiFi+, March 2005

"...For this writer, SACD and DVD-A are like that rumored-to-be-excellent restaurant with the punishingly irregular and unpublished hours. Most the time, it's closed when I stop by. Even though promising on paper and by repute, I can no longer be bothered. Being hungry for music, I need three daily meals. That means RedBook. With Zanden's front-end, SACD and DVD-A have become obscurities in the mists of Avalon - legendary perhaps but not quite real and certainly not relevant to the times... Yamada-San's novel reclocking and I²S master link implementation deserves recognition for what it is: A resetting of the boundaries that have defined (and limited) what RedBook playback has been thus far..."

Zanden 5000S Digital to Analog Converter Have you ever heard a standard CD sound better than a top flite SACD player, if the answer is yes they I guess you have already heard the Zanden.

Einstein The Last Record Player (CD player) More of a musical instrument than A piece of Hifi, wonderfull design and finish allied to a very musical performance. you can tell in the first 10 seconds that the designers love and enjoy music, the emotion pours forth from cd's with abundance. This does not sound like a CD player in a traditional sense, you are not constantly reminded of CD's shortcomings.

Boulder 2020 Digital to Analog Converter This attention to analog performance is simply unprecedented. Total crystal re-clocking completely eliminated jitter, and an eight times oversampling FIR digital filter produces superb transient response. Five Burr-Brown DACs in parallel per channel significantly lower distortion and increase accuracy to theoretical limits. Boulder's unique three-chassis design affords maximum isolation between digital and analog circuitry. The separate power supply chassis houses independent regulated supplies for each channel, as well as the digital / display chassis.

Weiss Jason CD Transport Any great digital front end must start with a great transport. The JASON CD Transport is an addition to the already famous MEDEA D/A Converter. The design and electronics are of the same high quality in both units. Many included features in the JASON which make it the CD Transport of choice not only in conjunction with the MEDEA but with all kinds of D/A Converters or Digital Amplifiers.
